Aside from the exhibits in Lofotr, the museum also has a special treat for all its guests. One of the main things to experience while here is to partake in the Viking feast. This special dinner consists of sampling Viking-inspired dishes combined with lively storytelling by knowledgeable guides in full costume! Some of the tasty dishes to look forward to include braised lamb, fish, and wild boar. As a compliment to the food, glasses full of mead, the traditional Viking drink made of alcohol honey and herbs, are provided.

This fantastic dining and storytelling experience is then capped off with the dancing of the traditional ring dance to the tune of an old Viking song. And of course, guests are always Viking axe to dance and party with the Vikings! The museum interior is not the only highlight of your visit to Lofotr. If you walk outside to the nearby inlet, you will find a magnificent replica of a Viking ship named Gokstad

The Lofotr Viking Museum is open all year round at varying times, but if you have the luxury to visit it at will, consider coming during summer, which typically is between the 15th of June to the 15th of August. During this time, more activities are being offered to guests. You can try your hand at archery or rowing a Viking ship. If you want to be more daring, why not learn how to throw an axe Viking style?

August is a special month at Lofotr as the museum celebrates the annual Viking festival, which extends to 5 fun-filled days. During this time, booths, games and markets will be set up. The museum will also organize concerts, workshops, fight exhibits and various activities! If you don’t feel like having a big feast, you can always grab a light snack and a drink at the seaside Skjeltersjåen café. You may arrange your own transport to Lofotr Viking Museum. You can also opt to take the public bus line that runs between Leknes and Slovlvaer. The museum also maintains its own bus service, which departs from Stamsund Hurtigruten pier.
